- Fig Tree in In Fruit Season In Israel the main fig fruit crop ripens in late summer (August–September). There are some varieties that can bear an early, smaller “breba” crop in early summer (June). Bible Study Notes
Fig in the Bible: What Does it Mean ? Short
- The fig tree in the bible and in particular its fig fruit often seem to stand for doing good things in real life. , like a healthy fig tree in relation to peoples behaviour might indicate they are showing kindness, a fair attitude in how they live and treat people. The outer behaviour of people shows actio, not just having nice platonic words, but real action.
- The fruit (actual figs) are a picture of true goodness.
- Fruit of the fig tree might represent goodness , the full fruit as it were, a little bit like a symbol of a person (or symbolically standing for a group of fruit , a community) who is actually living out what’s right not just talking about it.
- Fig leaves as in Adam and Eve covering themselves up in the garden of Eden in Genesis might stand for awareness of outward appearances and then efforts to cover up perceived vulnerabilities and weaknesses, trying to hide mistakes with excuses, or surface-level “goodness” rather than real honesty
- A barren fig tree might act as a warning about looking good on the outside with no depth to the conviction.
- Jesus spoke about a fig tree with leaves but showing no fruit, showing how it’s not enough to just look religious or moral or pretending to "fruit" as it were, but instead real goodness comes through following through on intent, into real action.
